Detox Days 1,2

Yesterday was the beginning of my 21-day detox/purification program.  For the past few months, I have let a ton of stuff go and just basically done exactly what I tell everyone else not to do.  Yes, I am not immune to poor lifestyle choices.  I decided that it was time to take a step forward and do something about it.  I believe sometimes it’s good to go big or go home.  That’s exactly what this detox program is.  It’s going big.  Making drastic changes for a short  period of time to experience unbelievable benefits.  Before you ask, yes, it’s hard.  It involves 21 days of eating good, high quality foods while taking some supplements to improve the bodies natural detoxification processes.  I feel that if I want my patients to live a certain way, then it should be my job to follow my own recommendations.

How it works:

The program is based around a 21 day diet change in which you eat only real food.  Normally, there is a 7 day detox process using different supplements.  Those switch slightly on day 8 and remain the same for the rest of the time.  The hard part is the dietary change.  The initial 10 days are supposed to be fruits, vegetables, and water so that you remove processed foods and animal products to allow your body to naturally begin to detox itself.  On day 11, you are able to include small portions of wild-caught fish or chicken.  Again, this lasts for the rest of the 21 days.  I am going to be continuing with the fruits and veggies only for the entire 21 days for personal reasons.

What should I experience?

You can find out more about the purification program at http://www.standardprocess.com/display/psppurification.spi.  From their website, Standard Process lists the following results:

A purification program can have a significant, positive effect on the biochemistry of the body while allowing natural toxins and byproducts of daily metabolism to be eliminated. By participating in a purification program, you may notice the following:

  • Improved weight management results
  • Increased energy/vitality
  • Better digestion
  • Less bloating
  • Clearer skin
  • Shinier hair
  • Better sleep
  • Clearer thinking
  • Disappearance or lessening of past conditions

My Detox

So here I am on day 2.  I wanted to give you a little update on what it is that I am doing and how it is working for me.  Yesterday wasn’t too bad.  I woke up weighing in at 197.4 lbs.  I felt ridiculously tired and quite honestly, wasn’t sure I was ready to begin.  Still, I decided this was the time and have been faithful.  I will say that I have had a headache since last night, but that is normal when you are trying to regulate blood sugar as drastically as this program does.  As well, it wouldn’t surprise me if there were some withdrawal symptoms as well.  I have to say that I am not really having that many cravings at this point.  I would love a steak or something, but it’s not like I feel like I have to have it.  I will do my best to update you as I go along.

One of the things that seems to matter the most when it comes to success is why you are doing it.  So why am I doing this?  Again, I feel as if I need to do that which I would ask you to do, for one.  Also, I would be lying if I didn’t say that I was unhappy with how I was looking and performing in my exercises.  I have put on close to 15 lbs in the last year and a half and I have noticed a little spare tire and also that the extra fat seems to be slowing me down when I run anything.  In addition to this, there are some spiritual reasons as well, but I won’t go too far into that.  I hope that my journey will help you and make you excited about your own health journey.

Have a blessed day!

Yours in Health,

James Ashley, DC
